Wind Cave National Park

This cave was first discovered by two brothers in the 1880's. They heard a wind coming out of the rocks while riding and decided to investigate. When one of the looked in the hole, the force of the wind knocked his hat off his head. Of course they went to town and told everyone. When they returned to demonstrate the whole sucked in the man's hat. People believe there was gold in the cave( there is not because it is limestone) so they had a family come out and explore and guard the cave. They had a 16 year old son that decide to explore the cave. He found 10 miles of cave with nothing but a candle bucket and a journal to write down his findings. The family realized there was no gold so decided to give tours of the cave instead. People from all over came and toured the caves. As of today the cave is the 5th longest cave in the world, and the most complex. They have a rare formation called box work. 95 percent of box work in the whole world is found in that cave. The cave has 3 levels with many undiscovered rooms. Explores come in and crawl around and find new rooms. There is currently 139 miles of tunnel that has been discovered, and by reading a barometric meter they have realized that the 139 miles is only 5 percent of the cave.
